6 Bears on the Roster Bubble Heading Into Preseason Finale

Chicago broke out the checkbook in 2023 free agency.
They signed two big-name linebackers landing Tremaine Edmunds on a four-year deal worth $72 million and T.J. Edwards for $19.5 million over three years. They weren't done on defense either, bringing in DeMarcus Walker on a $21 million, three-year deal while giving Yannick Ngakoue $10.5 million for one season.
On offense, they picked up a few role players including D'Onta Foreman and Robert Tonyan. Their big move, however, was the addition of Nate Davis. The former Tennessee Titans guard landed a three-year, $30 million deal.
Unfortunately, Davis was one of the signings that has yet to pay off. He missed six games in 2023 and struggled when he was on the field. Due to those struggles, the veteran offensive lineman was recently called out by head coach Matt Eberflus, which is never a good sign. Not much has changed heading into the final preseason game with Davis still not locking down the starting spot.
Matt Pryor is in the mix but don't count out Shelton Coleman or Ryan Bates who are battling for the starting center spot. Bates is currently dealing with an injury as well but he's taken snaps at guard and could slide over should the Bears elect to start Coleman.
For Davis, losing the starting job could be catastrophic. No one wants to pay $10 milion on average for a reserve, so he might wind up back on the open market if he doesn't impress down the stretch.
