The Chicago Bears are one of the most interesting teams to watch going into the 2024 season. That shouldn't come as a surprise, as general manager Ryan Poles did an exceptional job improving this roster.

They have a long list of additions but the main one was quarterback Caleb Williams. The Bears believe they finally landed their superstar quarterback and the excitement is through the roof. Now with the former Heisman winner under center, Chicago needs to make sure he's protected.

Head coach Matt Eberflus knows that and has decided to keep the competition open along the offensive line.

Bears News: Battle for Right Guard Is Open

As we approach the Bears' third preseason game, Eberflus revealed that there is still competition at center but also at right guard.

Ryan Bates and Coleman Shelton have been battling for the starting center spot but that isn't surprising. Nate Davis having to fight for his spot is another thing.

The 27-year-old was dealing with a groin injury that kept him out of training camp for a long stretch. Eberflus called him out earlier this summer and said he needed to stay on the field to earn his starting role.

Davis returned to the field this week and was a full participant in Thursday's practice, which was the most action he saw since returning to the practice field.

Shelton seems to have the upper hand on the center job and Bates was taking reps at guard while Davis was sidelined so he's certainly in the mix as well.

Now Bates is also dealing with an injury and is considered "week-to-week". That bodes well for Davis but he needs to stay healthy. Last season with Chicago, he missed six games. That isn't something new for him though, as he missed 12 games during his four-year run with the Tennessee Titans.

The 2019 third-round pick has his work cut out for him if he wants to be a part of the starting five along the offensive line.
