1. Justin Fields, QB

This one is tough. The 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Justin Fields left Ohio State looking like a star. His career started slow as the Bears were 5-20 in his first two seasons. While he did show off his athleticism, his passing was inconsistent.

This year, Chicago finally got him a No. 1 wideout and Fields looked better but they still started out 1-5. He then missed four games with a dislocated thumb. Since returning, the Bears have been vastly improved.

They’ve won four of their past five games and were alive in the playoff race until this past weekend. In all, they’re 5-7 with him under center this year and his touchdown-to-interception ratio is an impressive 16-to-9. Two of those came in their loss to Cleveland which were on Hail Mary’s at the end of each half. One actually hit the turf and was erroneously called a pick while the other was almost a game-winner if Darnell Mooney held on.

Despite his improvement, the Bears are expected to move on. This won’t be an easy decision but they own the No. 1 pick thanks to a trade with the Panthers last year. With Caleb Williams from USC sitting there, Chicago could trade Fields and start over. Time will tell if that’s the right move but for now, it’s the direction they seem to be taking.
