3 Players Who Have Gone Missing at Bears Training Camp
The Chicago Bears got off to an earlier start than most other NFL teams this offseason thanks to the fact that they were playing in the Hall of Fame Game this year, and because of that, we've had a couple of extra days of training camp to analyze, dissect, and overanalyze a little bit more.
The focus of Bears training camp is obviously #1 overall pick Caleb Williams, along with his 2024 NFL Draft classmate Rome Odunze at the wide receiver position. Those two guys have been putting on a show all offseason for Bears fans and the team just locked up #1 receiver DJ Moore to a massive extension.
The ugly side of training camp is that there are also players who haven't done their part to live up to expectations, whether they were once big-money free agents, NFL Draft sleepers, or undrafted gems. Which players haven't shown up in the way Bears fans may have hoped to start camp?
1. Nate Davis, OG
Unfortunately, Bears starting guard Nate Davis is trending toward being labeled as a free agent bust for the team. Davis signed a three-year deal worth $30 million last year with the Bears after spending the first few years of his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans.
The reality is, you can't help the team when you're constantly unavailable.
The Bears are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They need Nate Davis this year, because what are the alternatives at this point? They've paid him too much money to just flat-out cut him given their current alternatives. How can the Bears realistically move on sooner rather than later? They can't, but Davis also can't get out onto the practice field. At some point, something's got to give in this situation. The Bears need him out there.
