3 Keys to a Bears Victory Over the Titans in Week 1
3. Test the Titans' Secondary Early
As mentioned above, the Titans have revamped their secondary, with L'Jarius Sneed as a cornerstone addition. Along with these changes, the Titans have also brought in a new defensive coordinator. This means they spent all training camp installing the new defensive system.
Unfortunately for the Titans, both Sneed and Awuzie missed time during training camp due to injuries. While both players were still in the meeting rooms learning the new playbook not having the time on the practice field together hurts. Missing practice could lead to communication issues in the secondary, potentially resulting in blown coverages in Week 1.
This situation bodes well for the Bears, who boast one of the best-receiving corps in the NFL. Keenan Allen is an outstanding route runner, D.J. Moore excels in multiple roles, and rookie Rome Odunze showed promising route-running skills in the preseason. Veteran tight ends Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett also provide solid receiving options for Williams.
Although Sneed is coming off a fantastic season, the Bears should test him and the entire secondary early in the game. If Williams is able to get into a nice rhythm during his first real game, then the Bears should easily handle the Titans.
