3 Cubs on Thin Ice At Quarter Mark of 2024 Season

The Chicago Cubs are currently in second place in the NL Central, but their 23-17 record doesn't reflect just how bad some players have looked this season. Here are three players on thin ice right now.

3. Miguel Amaya, Catcher

Since Willson Contreras left Chicago at the end of 2022, the Cubs have had a catcher rotation of Yan Gomes and Miguel Amaya. Amaya is the younger of the two at 25 years old but has done little to impress at the plate.

Last season, Amaya had a .214 batting average, 40 strikeouts, 12 walks, and 28 hits on 156 plate appearances. That's not a great first season in the majors, but the Cubs were hopeful he would improve in 2024.

So far this season, Amaya has a .197 batting average, 19 strikeouts, six walks, and 15 hits in 87 plate appearances. Although Amaya has struggled at the plate, he has played more than Gomes, who has been better at the plate this season (.203 with two home runs and four RBI).

If Amaya continues to struggle, there is a chance the Cubs could send him down to the minors and call up a catcher to replace him.
