2. Christopher Morel

When it comes to the power you want from your corner infielders, Christopher Morel fits the role. He’s proven he can hit homers, tying with Cody Bellinger for the most on the team (26) in 2023. Also racking up 70 RBI, Morel has proven to be a spark plug for the Cubs offense.

The big question mark with him has been his defense. The Cubs have struggled to find an everyday spot in the field for Morel, with most of his starts coming at designated hitter. He's shown flashes of good defensive play but hasn't stuck at one position long enough to be able to prove he's an everyday defender.

There have been rumors that the Cubs were going to test Morel at first during spring training, and seems to be where the Cubs want to keep him.

With prospect Matt Shaw looking to break into the big leagues sooner than later, and rumors around free agent Matt Chapman as a potential choice at third base, it seems that Morel's time at the hot corner is over.

If he's able to show strides at the first base position he may be able to find himself a permanent home in this Cubs infield.
