The first Chicago Bears training camp practice takes place on Saturday, July 20. However, rookie report day was on Wednesday, during which injury designations for rookies going into camp were confirmed.

Two rookies have an injury designation going into camp: offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie and undrafted defensive end Jamree Kromrah. Kromrah was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, while Amegadjie was placed on the non-football related injury (NFI) list.

Amegadjie lands on the NFI list due to a quad injury that he suffered at the beginning of his senior season at Yale. The Bears were aware of Amegadjie's injury and recovery when they drafted him in the third round, but they were hopeful he could make a return by the start of training camp. Sadly, they underestimated the amount of time it would take Amegadjie to recover.

Although Amegadjie is expected to miss the first few practices, he can return to the field as soon as he is healthy. Hopefully, his return to the field will be within the first week or so, as he needs as many reps as possible.

Even though Amegadjie is not expected to be a starting lineman this season, practicing is crucial for him to get used to the speed of the NFL. Getting used to the speed of the NFL is important for any rookie, but for Amegadjie specifically, it is important because he didn't play much elite competition at Yale. Getting as many reps as possible in training camp will help prepare him if his name is called during the regular season.
