The Chicago Cubs really seem to have a superstar on their hands. Pete Crow-Armstrong continues to show the baseball world exactly why he's fit to run with the big dogs for a long time. I understand that Ohtani is a dual-threat who's always exciting to watch, but when PCA is working his magic, the crowd can't look away.
The Cubs took on the Blue Jays in a makeup game from June for a one game standoff. Despite the Cubs coming off of a series sweep against the Dodgers that pushed LA to a six-game losing streak, the Cubs produced virtually no offense until a game-tying home run from Alex Bregman in the bottom of the ninth.
Pete Crow-Armstrong is the kind of superstar baseball needs
The eleventh inning rolled around and PCA started the inning off with a single that culminated in Carson Kelly (the given runner on second) being tagged out at the plate. It was close to being the end of the game, but it bought enough time for PCA to advance to second. Shortly thereafter, PCA stole third and the throw down was offline, allowing him to advance home to score the game winner.
This was a textbook example of how this guy just keeps throwing the team on his shoulders and carrying them to the promise land. No matter what aspect of baseball you'd like to speak about, PCA is excelling in it. He can manufacture wins with his legs, or erase them with his glove. There doesn't seem to be anything on the baseball diamond that he can't do.
Baseball is the most captivating when every single pitch carries the chance for something unexpected to happen, and when PCA is on the field, the chances of that go through the roof. He's gone from exciting player in the outfield to genuine MVP candidate, and it's not huffed up. If PCA were to take that prestigious award home, it would be deserved.
Crow-Armstrong is not simply putting together an MVP-caliber season, but reminding everyone how much fun baseball can be. The Cubs have their superstar, and the rest of the league would be wise to keep its eyes on him.
