The Chicago Bears have had an undeniably rough week whether it was the 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Caleb Williams injury scare, or the fallout from fans taking shots at the quarterback's reaction to the injury. All of this added up to a need for a bit of a respite, and that is exactly what Thursday Night Football proved to be as Chicago sat safely at home and watched the hated Green Bay Packers take a complete drubbing from the Atlanta Falcons losing 35-14. Jordan Love played poorly and the defense gave up over 200 scrimmage yards to Bijan Robinson.
Add in the secondary getting toasted by Michael Penix Jr. in the quarterback's first game in nearly a year and Bears fans were given a needed gift. The loss to for the Packers drops the record to 1-2 and gives Chicago a bit more room for error as they are still attempting to determine whether Caleb Williams will miss time, and if so how long they will be without the franchise star.
Watching the Packers stumble is satisfying after Green Bay has gotten the better of the historic rivalry in recent years. Seeing it happen on a national stage against a team that appeared to be in the conversation as the league's worst unit is all the more exciting.
Now, Chicago appears to have a clear edge on taking the North for a second straight year with Minnesota's hot start easy to write off as an outlier. The Bears are the most talented roster and remain in clear control of their own destiny.
Bears Fans Can't Help but Enjoy Watching Green Bay's Misery After Frustrating Week
It will be interesting to watch how Chicago's division rival responds and whether or not there are any drastic moves made. The biggest issues are a complete lack of stability in the secondary and Jordan Love not being handed the protection needed to make it through a game consistently upright. Love was rattled early and unable to ever fully settle back in.
No question, the Falcons did the Bears and massive favor and fans couldn't be happier watching the Packers take a loss in such ugly fashion. The bigger question moving towards Week 3 will be whether or not Williams is able to return and take advantage.
While this would be the ideal way that things play out, there is no denying that taking a second loss would be far less damaging knowing the Packers already have two ugly losses this season. Green Bay lacks the excuse of a quarterback injury and simply appears to be the underdog in a division with far greater talents. An overdue development for a Chicago fanbase beyond sick of the Packers past years of consistent contention.
