Obvious Bears Trade Candidate Likely Staying in Chicago Against All Odds
By Cem Yolbulan
With the November 5th trade deadline fast approaching, NFL teams are looking for ways to upgrade their roster for a postseason push in the second half of the season. General managers scour the market to look for potential contributors they can acquire.
In recent weeks, Khalil Herbert of the Chicago Bears has been a name getting thrown around in trade rumors. The talented rusher has been demoted in recent weeks and is firmly behind D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson in the pecking order. As a result, speculations emerged about the 26-year-old getting traded for draft compensation ahead of the deadline.
Bears News: RB Khalil Herbert Likely Staying in Chicago
It turns out, however, that GM Ryan Poles has other plans. It was reported on Thursday that the Minnesota Vikings approached Chicago before signing RB Cam Akers. The division rivals reportedly made an offer for Herbert but the Bears turned it down.
Perhaps it is understandable that Chicago wouldn't want to trade a talented playmaker to an NFC North team. At the same time, Herbert's contract expires at the end of the season and he hasn't had a touch in the last three weeks.
Last season, Herbert finished with 611 yards in 12 games, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. He is talented and has enough of an upside to justify keeping around. If the Bears let him walk in the offseason without getting anything in return, however, this moment might be remembered as a big mistake by the front office.
