The Chicago Bears are 4-2 on the season as they roll into their bye week. After starting the season 1-2, they have reeled off three straight wins. The offense has seen an uptick in production, scoring at least 24 points.

There are playmakers on the offensive side of the ball who have caught the attention of teams around the league. Despite the interest, Chicago recently shut down trade talks for a young weapon.

Bears News: Bears Turned down Trade Talks for Khalil Herbert

According to Darren Wolfson, the Minnesota Vikings had talks with the Bears about running back Khalil Herbert before trading for Cam Akers.

"So prior to the trade for Cam Akers, I'm led to believe the Vikings preferred Khalil Herbert of the Chicago Bears. Now maybe that's, you know, diving into those speculative weeds a little bit. 100% confirmed, not reckless speculation, the Vikings had dialogue with Chicago, absolutely had interest in Herbert. So it wasn't Cam Akers or bust. Now clearly the Bears wouldn't do the parameters of the deal. The Vikings worked out with Houston."

Herbert is going to be a free agent after the season so people would expect the Bears to acquire some draft capital in exchange for him. But the Bears stood pat and kept the 26-year-old.

An underrated factor in why Chicago kept him was not sending him to a division rival who is 5-0 already.

In his career with the Bears, Herbert has logged 1,791 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He is a quality ball carrier but is likely to walk away in the free agency. Chicago would be smart to gain some draft capital if they don't plan on bringing him back. Minnesota just wasn't the right team for Chicago to negotiate with it appears.
