The Chicago Bears will take their 1-0 record to Week 2 vs. the Minnesota Vikings. Divisional matchups are always a bit of a toss-up, and regardless of Minnesota's quarterback situation, they have a stacked roster on both sides of the field.
They also have one of the most overqualified assistant coaches in the game calling the shots on defense. But as much as everyone gushes about Brian Flores, he might not pose much of a threat to the Bears.
Ben Johnson is actually 5-1 against Brian Flores' defenses, including 1-1 as a head coach. Notably, the Vikings got the best of him with a late-game comeback in his head-coaching debut, but Johnson and company got the last laugh in their second meeting.
History is on Ben Johnson's side against Brian Flores
Johnson's teams average 27.5 points against Flores' defenses. The Vikings beat Caleb Williams by blitzing just around 40 percent of the time in their first meeting in 2025, using masked shells to mess with his rhythm. Even so, the Bears still put up 24 points.
Then, in the rematch, Flores was much more aggressive against the No. 1 pick, calling blitz in nearly 80 percent of his dropbacks, but to no avail. The Bears had their second-lowest scoring output of the season, but they still got the job done.
Williams is a blitz killer, so Flores will have to come up with something different in this one. He blitzed Jordan Love in over 82 percent of his dropbacks in Week 1, and he almost paid the price for it. He definitely won't be that fortunate against one of the best quarterbacks in the game when facing additional help.
Also, the Bears have an improved set of weapons. They caught fire in Week 1 with a 59-point explosion, and while expecting a similar performance every week simply isn't realistic, they do have the potential to go off for 30+ regardless of who's on the other side of the field.
Brian Flores is a top-tier defensive coordinator who should probably have a team of his own. His off-the-field battle with the NFL cost him multiple opportunities, and he deserves a ton of respect. He can't be overlooked.
That said, it just happens that he can't seem to figure out the best offensive mind in business. Johnson always seems to have a counter for whatever Flores throws at him, and Sunday's matchup should be no different.
