Mixed Reports on Jayden Daniels Injury Making Bears' Job More Difficult in Week 8
The Chicago Bears have a bye in Week 7 and sit with a 4-2 record. They have a big-time contest on Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
This matchup has a lot of excitement and storylines. It's the No. 1 pick Caleb Williams against the No. 2 pick Jayden Daniels.
These two guys will forever be linked to each other and this is the first contest in the NFL between these two young studs. This game was moved from a noon CT kickoff to 3:25 CT. The NFL wanted the nation to watch these guys square off but injuries to Daniels have put a wrench in the plays.
The LSU product left last week's contest against the Carolina Panthers with a rib injury and now his status for Week 8 is up in the air.
Jayden Daniels Is Questionable for Week 8
Daniels didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday but was a limited participant on Friday. Head coach Dan Quinn spoke to reporters on Friday and gave a statement about Daniels.
He said, "We will assess how he responds to the work that we did over the next 48 hours. But we really pushed it today."
Daniels is attempting to play. On Saturday, he will go through the walk-through, meetings, and treatment for his rib injury.
All of these reports make it more difficult for the Bears to prepare. If Daniels can't go, it will be Marcus Mariota taking over. That would be an easier task to prepare for, as the Commanders' offense has been on fire to start the year.
They are fourth in the NFL in total offense (384.1), third in rushing offense (165.4), 14th in passing offense (218.7), and second in scoring offense (31.1).
With Daniels being questionable, the Bears have to prepare for both quarterbacks.
The Commanders offense is a different beast with Daniels at the helm. Chicago would certainly like to see Mariota instead. But NFL fans would love to see a Daniels vs. Williams matchup.
We'll have to wait and see how things unfold over the next 24 hours.
