The Chicago Bears defense was the lone spot of frustration in a season opening win where the offense pushed the Carolina Panthers all over the field. However, there is no denying a clear level of concern when it comes to defensive coordinator Dennis Allen's unit and whether or not there is enough rostered talent to make the needed adjustments. If the Bears were to consider a potential trade fix no star player makes more sense for the franchise than current Las Vegas Raider Maxx Crosby.
Crosby was already traded in the 2026 offseason with the Baltimore Ravens ending the deal citing injury concerns. The deal falling apart always smelled a bit off and Sunday served as evidence of this yet again as Crosby had 1.5 sacks against the Miami Dolphins and was an undeniable force off the edge for the Raiders.
Chicago cannot help but put one eye on the situation and begin to wonder whether or not it is time to make a desperation trade for the edge rusher. The only edge rush that got home during Sunday's contest was Montez Sweat. Having Sweat paired with Crosby gives you arguably the best edge rushing duo in the NFC and pushes the team to a level of capability that should offset the current struggles in the secondary.
Bears must entertain trade for Maxx Crosby after obvious Week 1 defensive struggles
Crosby playing opposite of Sweat would give both edge rushers the best chance they have had to pile up numbers in their respective careers. It also allows Allen to win consistently while rushing four and figure out things in a secondary with an obvious level of concern after giving up a trio of passing touchdowns and 361 yards to Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers.
Young is far from the most talented quarterback you're going to face this season leaving a clear level of concern. A tough start to the year was expected, but there is no defense of this level of performance when you've had all offseason to prepare for Carolina and have seen limitations in the game of Young.
Bringing in Crosby gives you more room to stumble and plenty of time to figure out how to align a young position group to produce at a more consistent level. No question, the Bears need to at least reach out to Las Vegas and see whether or not the franchise will entertain parting ways with a player who has already been traded once this year.
