Matt Eberflus Trying to Silence Bears From Criticizing Team in Media
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bears' decision-making and execution in their loss against the Washington Commanders in Week 8 have been called into question by many all week.
Aside from the disastrous last-second Hail Mary touchdown, the play that received the most attention was the handoff to offensive lineman Doug Kramer, who fumbled the ball at the 1-yard line.
This caused an uproar not only in the national media but also in the locker room. Star wide receiver DJ Moore publicly criticized the play call, saying he didn't know the reasoning behind the play and didn't think the team would go to it in a crucial situation like that one.
The coaching staff obviously didn't like publicly being challenged by the players. In fact, team captains and head coach Matt Eberflus had a meeting about it. Moore revealed what went down in those discussions.

Moore said that even though he doesn't regret what he said, he probably should have dealt with it internally. The talented receiver didn't apologize for the incident and said he was just trying to answer questions truthfully.
"Me and [Eberflus] talked about it with the captains. Just got to stay in-house next time. I'm not going to say 'sorry' for what I said but it should have stayed in-house. "

For now, this feels like it has been swept under the rug. At the same time, it hasn't been fully resolved. The coaching staff asking the team leaders and veterans not to criticize them in the media is not a good sign.
In the modern NFL, players like to speak their minds, and sometimes, they will not be favorable to the coaches, especially after a loss. Asking them to not speak truthfully to the press has the potential to backfire, but let's hope that's not the case for the Bears.
