Major Week 15 Injury News Could End Bears Player's Time in Chicago
The Chicago Bears special teams unit has had its ups and downs this season, but for the most part it's been decent. Unfortunately, on Wednesday the team received some bad news about a major part of the unit.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, kickoff/punt returner DeAndre Carter was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
Bears News: DeAndre Carter will miss th rest of 2024 with hamstring injury
Carter exited the Bears 38-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday after returning the Bears first kickoff. Carter's failure to return to the game on Sunday was probably brushed off more then it should have been. However, when a team gets dominated like the Bears did, injuries go overlooked.
This season, Carter has 32 returns (17 punt and 15 kickoff) for a total of 637 yards (479 kick return yards and 158 punt return yards). While Carter has failed to consistently produce long run backs, he does have a few on the season.
The main reason Carter was brought to Chicago was so the Bears had a returner who could consistently field kicks. Thankfully, Carter did not muff any this season.
Backup cornerback Josh Blackwell will be replacing Carter as the Bears kick returner for the next four games. While Blackwell possess speed, it will be interesting to see how he has all the skills to excel as the Bears returner.
As for Carter, last Sunday's game may be the last time we see him in a Bears uniform as he was only signed to a one-year deal last offseason. If it was, Chicago thanks him for being a reliable return specialist this season.
