The Chicago Bears have been frustratingly hit with a myriad of camp injuries that had head coach Ben Johnson going a bit easier over the last days of camp. Among the injury concerns was talented rookie pass catcher Zavion Thomas, who left practice with a knee injury. It seems that there isn't a major cause for concern, as Bears pundit Adam Hoge noted, "Zavion Thomas out here and doesn’t appear to have much of a limp at all after leaving practice with a knee issue yesterday."
It is incredibly important to note here that injured Bears players were out signing autographs, and this included Luther Burden, who is going to be sidelined for at least the next month. Hoge noting that Thomas is moving relatively well is a far cry from Thomas taking the field and proving he is capable of absorbing contact and performing at a consistent level.
Still, Chicago fans will take the update as a promising sign that the receiver is heading in the right direction. Excitement has continued to mount around the rookie, understanding how the combination of Williams' arm and the speed of Thomas could set up for a number of highlight plays in the season ahead.
Thomas has been off to an impressive start in camp as well being called out by players and coaches as one of the more impressive additions. Fans have to hope that this is simply a bump in the road and not an issue that is going to linger or stop what has been undeniable momentum throughout the first weeks of camp.

Luther Burden missing camp makes this an extremely important period for Thomas as well, with the understanding that he could be in the starting lineup. Kalif Raymond is more accomplished and will likely garner starting reps based on experience both as a player and time spent with Ben Johnson. Still, there is another position up for grabs in camp and the preseason, handing Thomas an elite chance to build trust.
Trust with Williams and the coaching staff is incredibly important when you consider the expectations the Bears are facing. This is a franchise looking to defend its NFC North title, with every reason to believe there are legitimate hopes of making a Super Bowl run. This offers a level of clarity to the opportunity Thomas has, and the reason a quick return to health is so important.
Missing further time opens the door for Scotty Miller, Jahdae Walker, or recent signing Ray-Ray McCloud to gain momentum and have a chance to steal a surprise role. No question, the depth chart after Rome Odunze is wide open, making it clear Thomas cannot afford for this issue to linger.
