Kiran Amegadjie has suddenly entered the Bears' left tackle competition

The Chicago Bears left tackle position battle was starting to come into focus even though it was early in training camp. However, once things got comfortable, Ben Johnson and the coaching staff decided to shake things up.

One name who looked out of the competition was third-year veteran Kiran Amegadjie. So, naturally, the team decided to give him all of the first-team work in their latest training camp session. This should confirm that he is clearly in the mix to start.

Amegadjie was a former third-round pick made by Ryan Poles during his time with Matt Eberflus. He was a tackle from Yale, so there was always going to be a learning curve for him, and no one expected him to see the field in his rookie year.

However, injuries caused him to get on the field, and he played 126 snaps. He struggled throughout the year, which was expected given his experience level.

Unfortunately, the team changed coaching staff. It was an upgrade across the board, but for a project player, he lost all of the people in his corner backing his development.

So, he did not get a chance to play in 2025. The most telling aspect was the team starting Theo Benedet over him when Braxton Jones went down. They clearly did not trust Amegadjie, and it looked like that was the end of his chances.

The Bears brought Jones and Benedet back, and they signed Jedrick Wills to compete at left tackle. The thought was that Amegadjie would be the fourth option at best at left tackle.

It has been notable that Benedet has not had many looks with the first team. However, he has been spending time with the second team on the right side.

The thought is that he would hold down the swing tackle spot, which would guarantee him a roster spot, and would give him a shot at backup left tackle duties.

However, early into training camp, it was Jones and Wills splitting time with the first team. Now, those two are working with the second-team while Amegadjie gets his chance.

There is still a lot that could happen, and Benedet could be getting his day soon. However, seeing the person that many saw clearly in fourth in competition running with the first group is worthy of some attention. It will be interesting to see rotation continue.
