Kaden Davis is making an unexpected push for a Chicago Bears roster spot

The Chicago Bears already have a pretty deep wide receiver group, and that was before fifth-year receiver Kaden Davis started to turn heads. Davis has put in multiple impressive showings in training camp and ended the Bears' most recent practice with a 34-yard touchdown reception. 

While he will need to continue to flash in the preseason, he is starting to make an impressive roster push. 

Chicago Bears Unknown Wide Receiver Making Roster Push

Davis was a UDFA in 2022 coming out of Northwest Missouri State. He was signed by the Denver Broncos and spent some time on their practice squad. In 2023, he signed with the Michigan Panthers of the UFL.

However, he found his way back to the NFL by signing to the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad later that summer. He spent all of 2023 with Arizona but spent training camp in 2024 with the Detroit Lions. 

He caught on with the Broncos again for a few weeks in 2024 before spending the next two seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He was active for three games over the past two years in Cleveland and had four kick returns for 135 yards. 

After spending the spring in the UFL, he is back in training camp with the Bears. Right now, he is on the outside looking in, but his presence in camp is starting to change things. 

The issue is that the room is not set up for him to climb the depth chart. The Bears obviously have Rome Odunze and Luther Burden as their top two.

However, they signed Kaliff Raymond and drafted Zavion Thomas to be the third and fourth. The big issue for Davis is that both of these names have return experience or expectations. Davis made the roster in Cleveland because of his return skills, but will struggle to top Thomas here.

So, he would have to beat Jahdae Walker for the fifth spot. After the rookie season that Walker had, it is hard to see the team moving Davis ahead of him. Even behind him, they have Scotty Miller, who has more NFL experience, and Maurice Alexander, who was with the Bears last season. 

Davis should be firmly ahead of JP Richardson, Omari Kelly and Kyron Hudson. However, that leaves him in the mix for the sixth wide receiver spot. That is not a locked-down spot even if he does win it. He is a name to watch in preseason as he makes a run for the roster.
