What will happen at safety?
This has quickly become the biggest question with the injury to free agent signing Coby Bryant. Right now, Cam Lewis is going to hold things down. However, he has 14 career starts in six NFL seasons, so there are questions about how that will go. The depth behind him is questionable, so his ascension is valuable.
What will happen in the slot?
The team has to figure out what to do in the slot. Kyler Gordon is on the PUP, and right now the team has no confidence he will get taken off the list anytime soon. The first thought was that Lewis would slide into the slot due to his versatility. However, now he is being asked to start at safety.
The Bears could start Jaylon Jones, Josh Blackwell, or Malik Muhammad in the slot during the preseason. Who has the edge?
What will happen at Left tackle?
The early indications were that Braxton Jones had the job and needed to lose it. However, recent practices have shown that there is an open competition right now. Jedrick Wills has been mixing in consistently, and recently Kiran Amegadjie has been getting looks with the first team. Theo Benedt has not been involved yet. Will he join them? Will it remain three or will one of the names drop out soon?
How does Zavion Thomas get used in the preseason?
All indications through training camp are that Zavion Thomas could have a big role for the Bears. They are using him in different ways; he is a return man in all areas, and he is electric with the ball in his hands. However, Bears fans have heard that in practice and seen different things when the games are played. Can Thomas live up to the hype, and will they use him in different manners?
End of roster competitions
The Bears have interesting end-of-the-roster competitions that will be worth watching throughout. Who wins the last offensive line spots, and how many linemen do they keep? Who is the third running back?
