The Chicago Bears seem to be poised for a big free agency period. Last week, Chicago traded for offensive guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, leaving them to address center and the defensive line in free agency and the draft. Fortunately, unlike other teams, the Bears believe they have their franchise quarterback, Caleb Williams, already on the roster.

That said, the quarterback Chicago hoped would be the future before Williams has found another starting job. According to Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have signed Justin Fields to a two-year deal worth $40 million. This will be Fields' last real shot to prove himself as a starter in the NFL.

Justin Fields Gets Last Chance to Prove He Can Be a Starting Quarterback

Last season, Fields went 4-2 in six starts for the Steelers, completing 65% of his passes (106/161) for 1,106 passing yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. Fields added 62 carries for 289 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Although the 26-year-old had his most success as a starter in 2024, Pittsburgh benched him after six games because the offense was struggling. Following Fields' benching, an aging Russell Wilson took over, and the Steelers never looked back. Despite this, some analysts and Bears fans alike still believe Fields has a promising career.

The next two seasons will be massively important for Fields. New York's offense has playmakers out of the backfield in Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, as well as a wide receiver Fields is familiar with in Garret Wilson. While they need a bit more help outside of Wilson, Fields' connection with him should be a good enough start.

Whether you were a Fields believer during his time in Chicago or not, hopefully, he is able to finally establish himself as a franchise quarterback in the NFL.
