The Chicago Bears are understandably excited about the team's current offense and the heights the team might reach in year two under Ben Johnson. The largest piece of this is finally having a franchise quarterback in Caleb William, a player capable of elevating those around him and pushing the Bears into meaningful contention. It is something that hasn't been lost by the veteran members of Chicago's roster, who understand all too well the importance of Williams.

Veteran corner Jaylon Johnson spoke on this, building up Williams and making sure to note the improved accuracy. Johnson's comment came via the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, with the comment including an interesting comparison that will have Chicago's attention.

"Caleb's the best quarterback I've had since maybe Nick Foles if you want to go back that far. Just as far as slinging it, he's doing his thing. You can see the accuracy. You can see the confidence throwing the ball in tight windows."

It is important to note here that Williams has a far higher ceiling than Foles, but it is a flattering comparison in the fact that the best version of the career backup was a Super Bowl MVP and champion. The former Bear won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles passing for 371 yards and a trio of touchdowns.

Foles had the full belief of his locker room and this was a big reason why the Eagles were able to make a Super Bowl run after losing Carson Wentz. The trust and love for Foles was clear and that was a consistent story throughout the backup's career leading us to why this is a clear positive for Williams.

Bears Defender Compares Caleb Williams to Super Bowl Champion Nick Foles

Noting that this is the best quarterback that Johnson has played against since Foles is telling for two reasons. The first is the fact it speaks to how Williams is viewed by the defense and the respect he is earning through his first seasons with the team. Secondly, Foles was a veteran, who had no problem slinging the ball around in practice and picking apart the Bears defense when given the opportunity.

While this perhaps didn't translate to the regular season success that Williams has seen, this explains why Johnson is making the comparison. Williams is the first quarterback since the veteran that the corner has seen capable of picking apart the defense and throwing the ball all over the field.

It only adds to the excitement around the franchise quarterback and bolsters what expectations could be moving forward. There simply is no way around the fact that Williams is one of the league's brightest talents and is still just scratching the surface of what can be accomplished.
