Chicago must let the former UDFA WR run freely.

Quietly, one of the biggest winners in the Chicago Bears' 2026 offseason has been wide receiver Jahdae Walker.

The Bears' decisions to part ways with DJ Moore, Olamide Zaccheaus, and Devin Duvernay have left the door wide open for Walker to go from an overlooked depth piece to a meaningful piece of the Chicago offense. The only hurdle remaining is getting through this year's draft without the Bears adding to the position in the early rounds.

If Chicago opts not to add to the position, there is no questioning that Walker is set up for a breakout season.

Jahdae Walker Is on the Cusp of a Bears Breakout

Walker finished the 2025 season with only six catches for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns. However, he was only given 10 targets on the season due to the aforementioned receiver depth. The logjam has cleared up, and even though Kalif Raymond was added in free agency, he'll likely be spending time in the special teams mix, too.

Even if Raymond is expected to step into the starting lineup as the third receiver, this leaves Walker poised for a huge jump in playing time as the fourth option. As a point of reference, Zaccheaus was the team's fourth option at the position in the 2025 season and finished the year with 313 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

It is again important to note here that the final hurdle that Walker must clear to cement this role is the upcoming draft. Chicago losing such an accomplished player in Moore could still force the team to draft a notable addition and completely reshape Walker's standing with the franchise.

This is a huge success story for Walker, who was signed last offseason as an undrafted free agent. It was a surprise to see Walker make the roster, and less than a year later, the Texas A&M product is in line to either find a role in the starting lineup or become the team's fourth option.

Bears fans can't help but appreciate the story and consider Walker's potential, which remains a bit of a mystery. Part of the reason fans are already convinced is that the few catches the receiver did make in the 2025 season had a lasting impact.

Whether it was scoring on a key fourth-down against the Green Bay Packers or catching a touchdown against the Detroit Lions, Walker had his best moments against division rivals, proving he can step up when the Bears need him.

Now that there isn't as much competition ahead of him, it's time for the former UDFA WR to show he can make an impact more consistently.
