Without Caleb Williams, the Chicago Bears are going to ask backup quarterback Case Keenum to step up. However, this will also call on other names across the roster to rise to the occasion. Who has to play better now that Williams is out with a hamstring injury?
4 Chicago Bears Who Need to Step Up Without Caleb Williams
Garrett Bradbury
Bradbury was a winner in training camp, but has been a loser on the field. He is a good asset because of his ability to communicate and see the field. However, when he faces defenders bigger than him, he loses. He has to be better with Keenum.
His communication ability will help, but he needs to bring more to the table. The key will be holding up physically, so Keenum can have time to step up in the pocket.
Colston Loveland
This has been quite the disappointing year for second-year tight end Colston Loveland. Loveland has one catch for three yards in the first two games. Now, he has a new quarterback who is not experienced with him.
Still, Loveland started slow as a rookie as well. Keenum should lean on his top skill players, and that is Loveland. He has to find ways to get more targets with a backup quarterback.
Luther Burden
Loveland should be the go-to for Keenum. However, Burden should be the player the Bears scheme up easy touches for. He is the best with the ball in his hands. Still, he has eight catches for 95 yards, and only 32 came after the catch. He has one rushing attempt, but it is just for two yards.
The Bears have to find ways to get Burden the easy touches so he can make plays with the ball in his hand. This would make life a lot easier for Bagent.
D’Andre Swift
The Bears are going to have to lean on the rushing attack more than they did in the first two weeks. Swift was unstoppable in Week 1, with 18 rushes for 124 yards and three touchdowns. He came flying back down to reality in Week 2, though. He had just 16 rushes for 45 yards.
You can say that Swift saw a much tougher defense, and they keyed in on him. However, with Williams out, all attention will remain on the Bears' freshly extended running back. Swift needs to be even better going forward.
