This offseason, the Chicago Bears focused on adding depth to their wide receiver room. Chicago signed veterans Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay during free agency. Then, they selected University of Missouri receiver Luther Burden in the second round of the NFL Draft.
Similar to last year, these additions have Bears fans fired up for what the receiving room can do in 2025. This year, though, it's a bit different because they won't just have to count on their top three receivers.
That said, one notable name from last season's receiving corps still remains jobless entering training camp: Keenan Allen.
Former Bears Receiver Keenan Allen Enters Training Camp Still a Free Agent
When Chicago acquired Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers last offseason for a fourth-round pick, both the organization and fans were excited to see what he could do with rookie Caleb Williams. Before the 2024 season started, the top three receivers (D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and Allen) had friendly banter about who would reach 1,000 receiving yards.
Unfortunately none of them did, and Allen went on to have a disappointing year in many fans' eyes. In 2024, the 33-year-old recorded 70 receptions on 121 targets for 744 yards and seven touchdowns. Furthermore, he had six drops, which was the third most of his career.
Allen also missed time due to nagging heel issues. Despite some of his struggles being out of his control, the wideout isn't the only one to blame. Bears coaches didn't exactly put Allen or anyone on the team in the best position to look good all the time.
Nevertheless, Allen made it clear during an interview last year that he wants to finish his career in Los Angeles or Chicago. Be that as it may, the three teams that occupy those cities have fairly crowded wide receiver rooms.
So, if Allen is indeed looking to play in 2025, he will need to look elsewhere. Surely, the 12-year veteran still has something left to give to a contender.
