The Chicago Bears are trying to fight off their own struggles at training camp. With the preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins approaching, the Bears need to figure out the nuances of Ben Johnson’s offense or risk another disappointing year in his first season as head coach.
While the Bears are trying to lock on, some players who used to call Chicago home are simply trying to find a job. One former receiver hit a snag in that process when he was released last week, but has plenty of interest after getting another tryout this week.

Former Bears WR Equanimeous St. Brown Gets Tryout With Raiders
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, the Las Vegas Raiders worked out former Chicago Bears wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown over the weekend. St. Brown, who played two seasons with the Bears in 2022 and 2023, is looking to latch on with a team for the upcoming season but has found trouble finding a long-term home.
A sixth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2018 draft, Brown caught 21 passes for 328 scoreless yards in his rookie season before injuries came into play. A severe ankle sprain kept him sidelined for the entire 2019 campaign, and he spent two more seasons in Green Bay before signing with the Bears in 2022.
Although St. Brown caught 21 passes for 323 yards and a touchdown in his first season in Chicago, hamstring and pectoral injuries limited him to seven games in 2023. He appeared in two games with the New Orleans Saints last season and spent the early portion of camp with the San Francisco 49ers, but has been looking for a new team after his release on July 31.
The 49ers appeared to be a great opportunity with several players dealing with injuries before camp. But the Raiders may be an even better situation for St. Brown. Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, and 2025 fourth-round pick Dont’e Thornton Jr. are currently projected as starters, and fellow former Bear Collin Johnson, second-round pick Jack Bech, and sixth-round pick Tommy Mellott are candidates to make the roster.
It remains to be seen whether the Raiders will make an offer to St. Brown, but for now, it appears he may have a new opportunity heading into this season.
