The Chicago Bears are in the second week of training camp and their preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins is growing closer. The first preseason game is an opportunity for players on the bubble to audition for a spot on the roster. But while some players get that chance, others never make it to the field.
Thatβs what happened to a former Bears wide receiver that tried to get a fresh start this summer. While he isnβt a rookie, he was looking to make his way back into the league but was released after nine days with his new team.
Former Bears WR Equanimeous St. Brown Lasts Just 9 Days with 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers announced a string of cuts on Thursday after adding running back Ameer Abdullah, quarterback Carter Bradley and wide receiver Marquez Callaway to the roster. While offensive lineman Sabastian Gutierrez, wide receiver Malik Knowles and safety Jaylen Mahoney were waived, the cuts also included a familiar face in former Bears receiver Equanimeous St. Brown.
The #49ers have released/waived the following players in corresponding moves:

A sixth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2018 draft, Brown caught 21 passes for 328 scoreless yards in his rookie season before a severe high ankle sprain kept him sidelined for the entire 2019 campaign. The USC product had a marginal role with the Packers the next two seasons but came to Chicago as a free agent in 2022.
St. Brownβs time with the Bears included 21 catches for 323 yards and a touchdown in 2022 but hamstring and pectoral injuries limited him to seven games in 2023 and he appeared in two games with the New Orleans Saints last season.
The 28-year-old had some opportunity in San Francisco as Brandon Aiyuk is recovering from a torn ACL and MCL, Juan Jennings is out with a calf injury and Demarcus Robinson is facing suspension. But it wasnβt enough to get a job lined up for 2024.
With the season drawing near, St. Brown will have to look for an opportunity somewhere else or risk spending 2025 podcasting with his brothers.
