This offseason, the Chicago Bears are tasked with not only finding the right head coach to help develop Caleb Williams but also focusing on rebuilding the trenches. That said, a potential free agent option -- who was also a former Bear -- could be calling it a career.

Following the Los Angeles Chargers' Wild Card loss, veteran edge rusher Khalil Mack claimed he is considering retirement. If the 34-year-old does decide to retire, he certainly put together a Hall of Fame-worthy career.

Former Bear Khalil Mack considering retirement following 2024 season

If you were to ask any Bears fan the most exciting move the team has made in the past decade, the majority would say trading for Mack in 2018. Although the Bears gave up massive draft capital (two firsts, a third, and a sixth-round pick), Mack was meant to take the defense to another level.

During his first season in Chicago, he did exactly that, notching 47 tackles, 12,5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 18 QB hits. Unfortunately, 2018 was Mack's only season with 10 or more sacks in Chicago. Throughout his next three seasons with the Bears, Mack recorded 8.5 sacks in 2018, 9.0 sacks in 2020, and 6.0 sacks in 2021.

Although the Bears might not have gotten the production that they expected out of Mack, many Bears fans still treat him with high regard. Nevertheless, the Bears traded Mack to the Chargers before the start of the 2022 season.

Since joining the Chargers, Mack has recorded 163 tackles, 31 sacks, nine forced fumbles and 49 QB hits. Mack's production with the Chargers clearly shows he had a lot left in the tank when the Bears traded him.

However, it now seems that Mack's tank could almost be on empty. If he does decide to retire, Bears fans and all NFL fans will remember him fondly.
