The Chicago Bears have lost a few free agents of note in the 2025 offseason. New head coach Ben Johnson has not only helped retain Chicago's current stars but also attracted a new wave of talent excited to join the new head coach and quarterback Caleb Williams. It appears the team has made the right decision now, only selecting Williams but bringing in new leadership that appears to be capable of unlocking the quarterback's full potential. With this in mind, Bears fans have very few regrets turning the page on former Chicago quarterback Justin Fields. After spending a season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the signal caller has landed a new starting gig.
Fields didn't appear to factor in the fact that the New York Jets have consistently imploded the quarterback position for the last decade. Whether it was Aaron Rodgers or turning the clock all the way back to Mark Sanchez, things rarely end well for Jet quarterbacks. With this in mind, the former Bears quarterback is in danger of seeing his starting career finally come to an end.
Former Bears QB Justin Fields Set For Failure
Fields is far too great of an athlete not to continue his career as a backup or as a wildcat quarterback. However, the Jets will be the starter's last stop when it comes to having a chance to prove himself a franchise option. New York doesn't have the offensive line or needed pieces to compete in a division where they appear to be at best the third best team.
Just as things ended for Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, and Rodgers, the former Bears quarterback is going to find himself very quickly searching for backup jobs. Even in an ideal circumstance, it is borderline whether or not the quarterback can be considered a legitimate starting option. The lack of consistency in the passing game has haunted the former Chicago starter since his rookie season.
There simply hasn't been the expected development for a player once believed to be the future of the franchise. New York is only going to make this issue worse, making it clear Fields isn't going to have a future as a starting option in this league. The former Bear made the wrong choice signing with the Jets, one that it won't take long for both sides to regret once the 2025 season begins.
