The NFL offseason is flying by as June enters its final week. The Chicago Bears' outlook is much clearer following successful organized team activities (OTAs) and a mandatory minicamp that gave first-year head coach Ben Johnson a taste of the NFL action heading into his debut season.
Although OTAs and minicamp went well for a lot of players, that wasn't the case for everyone. Players around the NFL failed to capitalize on their latest offseason opportunities, including a former Bears quarterback who's on thin ice ahead of the summer's next phase.
Former Bears QB Tim Boyle is on Thin Ice After Offseason Workouts
When it comes to former Bears' outlooks this offseason, ex-Chicago QB Tim Boyle's future is among the less promising. It isn't a secret that the 30-year-old signal-caller has struggled to find an NFL home.
Since going undrafted out of Eastern Kentucky in 2018, Boyle has spent time in eight different organizations, including spending some of the 2022 campaign in Chicago. He most recently split 2024 between the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins before signing a one-year contract with the Tennessee Titans in March.
Although the Titans' QB room hasn't been anything special recently, that'll change with 2025 first-overall pick Cam Ward in town. Boyle's chances of being Ward's backup aren't promising given that 2023 second-round pick Will Levis is still in town, while veteran gunslinger Brandon Allen joined Tennessee almost two weeks before Boyle did.
The former Bears QB needed a strong offseason performance to catch the Titans coaching staff's eye, which he failed to produce. Boyle's OTA and minicamp performances weren't anything to write home about, which is the opposite of what kind of showing a bubble player needs. If a quarterback can outperform the likes of Levis and Allen, he probably doesn't deserve to be on an NFL roster.
In other words, Boyle needs to have a training camp performance to remember if he wants to crack the Titans' 53-man roster. The veteran QB is a terrific locker room presence, for sure, but the off-field vibes he brings don't mean much if he can't make an impact on the gridiron, too.
With training camps opening in a month, Boyle's Titans journey is one that Bears fans will want to continue following throughout the summer.
