The Chicago Bears drafted Leonard Floyd ahead of the 2016 season, with the pass rusher spending his first four seasons in the league with the franchise. Since leaving the Bears, Floyd has bounced around the league, spending time with the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, and, most recently, the Atlanta Falcons. Floyd has offered 70.0 career sacks and remains a solid rotational pass-rushing option.

Still, the former Bears draft pick has remained in free agency, even on the heels of the draft, and has been unable to find a new landing spot. This is a bit of a surprise with Floyd coming off a solid season with Atlanta, offering 36 pressures and four sacks in a rotational role with Atlanta. It seems that this is a level of production that would offer the former Bear an opportunity elsewhere.

For Chicago, it is fair to consider a reunion as it would make sense and bolster a pass rush that could clearly utilize the veteran. If Floyd is going to continue sitting in free agency, it would benefit Chicago to reach out and see if a deal can be struck for the team's draft pick to return to his initial team.

The Georgia product should be open to this idea, considering the fact that his free agency has stretched deep into the offseason and doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon. Teams have restocked their pass-rushing options throughout the draft and now have the hope of adding an impact rookie.

Former Bears Draft Pick Leonard Floyd Continues Searching for New Free Agency Landing Spot

Floyd appears destined to accept a low-dollar deal that forces the veteran to prove he can still contribute at a high level. Considering the defender is a decade into his career, this doesn't come as a surprise. A return to Atlanta could be on the table, or the pass rusher could hold out to take a minimum deal on a contending roster.

It is a situation the Bears should monitor with every reason to stock up on pass-rushing options. With that said, it is only an option for Chicago if Floyd wants to return on a deal that benefits the franchise. There is zero reason to even consider any deal with guarantees or promises of playing time for the aging Floyd.

This is likely why the defender remains on the market with past production offering hope of a deal that is yet to appear. It seems likely that this will continue with Floyd needing to sign a low-dollar offer if his career is going to continue. A career that has been quietly solid and could now have a chance to continue where it all began, as little free agency interest has created a potential opportunity for Chicago to reunite and buy low on the veteran pass rusher.
