Former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has shockingly landed a new job for the 2025 season after a disastrous 2024 in the Windy City.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jacksonville Jaguars hired Waldron as their new pass game coordinator. Waldron will work alongside new offensive coordinator Grant Udinski on Liam Coen’s coaching staff.

This is a good opportunity for Waldron to take a step back from playcalling after how things played with the Bears.

The 45-year-old Waldron didn’t survive the whole 2024 season. The Bears fired him a couple of days after their Week 10 loss to the New England Patriots. Matt Eberflus replaced Waldron with Thomas Brown, who was given the interim OC tag.

However, Brown didn’t keep the interim OC role for long. He took over for Eberflus as the head coach, who was fired after the Bears’ Week 13 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

Waldron was hired last offseason to replace Luke Getsy, who wasn’t great as the OC in 2022 and 2023. Getsy was hired as the Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator this past season but was fired in November.

Under Waldron’s direction, the Bears had no balance and struggled to score points. After the Week 7 bye, Chicago averaged nine points per game in their next three contests. This was a notable difference from the first six games where the Bears scored 24.6 points per game.

Based on the Bears’ talent on offense, there was no excuse for the struggles and inconsistent scoring. Waldron should’ve been able to put Williams in a position to succeed and that did not happen often.

Nonetheless, Bears fans are thankful that the Waldron era is over as they hope for better days with new head coach Ben Johnson and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle.
