The Chicago Bears have made some tweaks to their roster this offseason, and the biggest move came in the wide receiver room. The Bears traded DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills in return for a 2026 second-round pick, putting more on the plate of Luther Burden III for the upcoming season in the process.
Chicago also added Kalif Raymond in free agency, but that doesn't mean general manager Ryan Poles' WR-related additions should end there. Veteran playmaker DeAndre Hopkins is still on the free-agent market, and his recent comments on his X account show that he still wants to play football.
After a Baltimore Ravens fan suggested they should re-sign Hopkins, the five-time Pro Bowl receiver made it clear that he believes his career is far from over.
"How many times after this do you think I was used in the red zone?DeAndre Hopkins, Free Agent WR
When targeted, I'm still one of the most productive but never complained with my snaps and never will. Facts!"
Considering the Bears don't have a clear-cut WR3, they have every reason to roll the dice on Hopkins.
Bears Should Look at Signing DeAndre Hopkins in Free Agency
Although Hopkins is set to turn 34 years old in June, he would still provide the Bears with a veteran pass catcher. He's seen his production and usage decrease over the last two years, yet he can still make plays when asked.
In 2025, he played in a career-low 33% of the offensive snaps, logging 22 catches for 330 yards and two touchdowns. He was still a big-play threat, averaging 15.0 yards per reception.
For a Bears team that will lean on Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland, and Burden for the bulk of their target shares in the passing game, they still need to have another quality pass catcher added to the room. Yes, they signed Raymond, who has ties with head coach Ben Johnson and WRs coach Antwaan Randle El, but he will be 32 years old before the season kicks off. While he can provide juice as a receiver, he's better off as the primary return man and in the WR4 role.
There are reps up for grabs in the WR room, and the decision to sign Raymond shows how the Bears feel about Jahdae Walker's going into the 2026 season. Even though Hopkins isn't in his prime anymore, he's still a savvy veteran who can help this team. He's a five-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler.
Hopkins is still a sure-handed weapon who can step into this offense and yield positive results. It also wouldn't cost them much to land him, either, as Spotrac projects Hopkins to get a one-year, $1.5 million deal.
It's also a bonus that Hopkins made it known that he won't be the player to complain about his snap count. He would be an ideal low-cost veteran who could catch lightning in a bottle next season if everything goes right. He's looking for a new team, and the Bears would be wise to give him a call.
