Dan Orlovsky’s Caleb Williams take should frustrate every Bears fan

The former Lions quarterback ranked Jordan Love ahead of Caleb Williams despite Love’s playoff collapse against Chicago.

Catching the attention of Chicago Bears fans this past week has been an outrageous take from a former rival when it comes to quarterback Caleb Williams. Former Detroit Lions quarterback and current ESPN personality Dan Orlovsky recently went on the network and offered that "If I'm ranking the NFC North quarterbacks, Jared Goff is at one and Jordan Love is at two.. That would be a clear one and two for me."

Perhaps Orlovsky missed the playoffs when Love had his chance to match up with Williams and helped oversee an epic playoff collapse. The Packers were given the ball consistently and had a chance to stop a 25-point fourth quarter from the Bears that erased a three-score second-half lead and would send the Packers home.

This put Williams 1-0 against Love in the playoffs and matched Love's career playoff wins with the quarterback having a 1-3 record when playing January football. This points out how completely out of touch the take is that a quarterback who just lost to Williams in the playoffs should universally be considered a better option than a player with far more arm talent, as much playoff success, and now owns a winning record in the playoffs against Love.

Caleb Williams continues to be undervalued by national media

Ranking Goff ahead of Williams is a bit more forgivable when you consider that the quarterback started in a Super Bowl and has a 5-5 playoff record. There is also the fact that the former backup quarterback spent time in Detroit giving all the more reason to defend the team's current starter and back a franchise that gave you an opportunity.

While there isn't an argument that Goff is more talented or has a higher ceiling, there is no disputing that the veteran is more accomplished. Orlovsky has a valid argument here, but it is unquestionably out of touch and disrespectful to put Love ahead of a quarterback who has far more raw talent and just got the better of the signal caller in the playoffs.

Pointing to the defensive collapse or kicking struggles isn't an excuse, with Love having a healthy lead and touching the football multiple times with the ability to put the game away. Instead, Williams bounced the Packers from the playoffs and made a statement win that is obviously being ignored in these disrespectful rankings.

No question, Williams remains underrated by portions of sports media, not understanding the ability to protect the football while consistently making huge plays. Chicago's quarterback deserved more respect and unquestionably deserved to be ranked ahead of the underwhelming Love.
