The Chicago Bears extended star running back D'Andre Swift just under the wire of the 2026 season getting underway with a three-year deal for $33.75 million getting signed on September 11th. It took away the final remaining question when it came to the future of Chicago's playmakers and locked into place a core that can help Caleb Williams offer the Bears a level of offensive greatness Bears fans have been begging for over the last two decades. With this in mind, Swift earned a bit of extra attention this week as the playmaker played his first game under the new deal.
Any concerns about this changing the rusher's attack was clearly misplaced with Swift putting on a show. Caleb Williams might have put up MVP numbers, but it was the balance that Swift offered allowing the quarterback to be at the top of his game. Swift finished with 124 rushing yards and a trio of touchdown rushes that were well earned.
What stood out about the game on the heels of the extension is the ferocity with which the Chicago playmaker ran. Swift put his foot into the ground and was seeking out contact fighting through it and bursting in open space. It was a reminder of what the running back can be at his best and why the Bears made the perfect decision re-signing Swift beyond the 2026 season.

Swift had a reception as well for 10 receiving yards having what was one of the most impressive Week 1 debuts for any playmaker this season. The Bears had a complete offensive attack and plenty of carries to offer backup Kyle Monangai as well, with the second-year rusher finishing his day with 10 carries for 100 rushing yards and a lone touchdown.
Not every week will be this soft, but there is no longer any questioning why the Bears opted to sign the deal with Swift. Running back is a difficult position to gauge when it comes to value and what you're willing to spend on a position that rarely ages well. Week 1 served as a clear statement that Chicago walked this line perfectly and handed Swift a needed extension while giving a number that appears to have been a bargain.
The rusher comes in at a very reasonable cap hit each of the next three years and fits perfectly with the core that has been built. Chicago did well and has left little reason to believe the deal won't continue to age incredibly well and perhaps finish the year as one of the league's top bargains.
