Cubs' latest injury setback puts even more pressure on front office ahead of trade deadline

Jameson Taillon's trip to the injured list is another blow to a rotation already stretched thin by injuries.

Jameson Taillon has become the most recent Cubs pitcher to land himself a stint on the IL. Manager Craig Counsell stated in his post game interview that Taillon had been scheduled for imaging on Monday, and that the severity of the injury wouldn't be known until then. Unfortunately, it's a Hamstring issue that we're dealing with here, and those have a way of lingering around long enough to really make a dent.

The Cubs have become one of the most injured teams in baseball, with their pitching staff decimated by injuries. Taillon has previously been a reliable arm the Cubs have come to count upon, and his absence could potentially have detrimental consequences.

The Cubs can ill afford another blow to the rotation

It's no secret across the league, but the Cubs need pitching. It's already a known fact that the Cubs we're going to be targeting available pitching at the deadline next month, but this new development may change things.

The Cubs have recently taken steps after step to get more help onto the mound, acquiring Antoine Kelly from the Dodgers farm system. It's a low risk bet the Cubs have undertaken, but one that shines a spotlight on the plague of injuries this team has sustained.

With Taillon moving to the IL, the Cubs aren't just without another arm. They're down and it seems like the injury gods are really kicking. Taillon has been a beacon of stability on the mound, even when all others failed. Taillon has managed to put together quality outings in an environment where winning wasn't exactly happening. He gave his team a shot to win the game every time he took the mound. What more could you ask for from your starting pitcher?

The Cubs are still waiting for the results of Taillon's imaging, but the initial outlook is far from ideal. With the rotation already stretched thin and the trade deadline approaching, another injury to a key starter only increases the urgency for Chicago's front office to find reinforcements.

The Cubs have managed to stay afloat despite a growing list of injuries, but each new setback makes the challenge tougher. Taillon's MRI results could go a long way toward determining just how aggressive Chicago needs to be in the weeks ahead.
