Coveted Bears Coaching Candidate Reportedly Wants Different Job
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bears are wrapping up the disastrous 2024 season on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. They are on the verge of losing their 11th straight game and finish the season with a 4-13 record.
Earlier in the season, Matt Eberflus became the first Bears head coach ever to be fired midseason. Thomas Brown took over as the interim head coach but he wasn't the panacea the team was looking for. The Bears continued to suffer one embarrassing loss after another, most recently an ugly 6-3 loss to the Seahawks.
Despite playing their bitter rivals in the regular-season finale, Bears fans are understandably more focused on the offseason. The coaching search is at the front of the mind for the fanbase.
Plenty of capable candidates are being speculated about for the Bears' head coaching vacancy. The widespread consensus among Bears fans is that Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson should be at the top of the list.
Unfortunately, however, Johnson may be coveting another job. Per 1010XL 92.5 Jacksonville Sports Radio, Johnson wants the Jaguars head coaching gig, according to his own quarterbacks coach, Mark Brunell.
NFL Rumors: Lions OC Ben Johnson Wants Jaguars HC Job
The Jaguars are in the midst of a disappointing season themselves. After back-to-back nine-win seasons, Jacksonville is 4-12 heading into the final week of the season. Head coach Doug Pederson is still holding onto his job but the expectation is that he will be gone in the offseason.
Johnson is reportedly interested in coaching talented QB Trevor Lawrence. Whether the Jaguars job officially becomes available and they make a run at Johnson, however, remains to be seen.
If the Bears lose the most coveted head coaching candidate on the market to the Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence, the fanbase will be furious. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
