Colston Loveland is the Chicago Bears tight end one despite only entering his second year in the league. Drafted in the first round of the 2025 draft, Loveland had a somewhat slow start to the season, but that didn't stop him from finishing the season posting impressive numbers, and even breaking rookie playoff numbers.

Loveland was recently named a potential All-Pro candidate by Sports Illustraded's Jerry Markarian. Loveland was placed highly on the list alongside four of his Chicago teammates, being placed at #2 most likely. But does Loveland have what it takes to catapult his career even higher than he reached in his rookie campaign?

The ingredients are already there

Loveland has shown the NFL that he's something to be aware of whenever he's on the field. He's shown himself capable of being an elite level blocker, and a receiver talented enough to lead the Bears in receiving yards in 2025 as a rookie! He's a scoring threat any time he sets up on the line.

The chemistry between Loveland and star quarterback Caleb Williams is difficult to ignore. Loveland became somewhat of a hero to the Bears in the latter half of the season in part because of his immense talent, size, and football awareness, but also because Williams began to trust him in crunch time. When Loveland became a consistent option for Williams to hit any time he ran into trouble, it only makes sense that they'll keep doing it as long as it's still working.

Loveland is almost universally expected to put together an impressive 2026 campaign given how he fared within Ben Johnson's offense in 2025. With the addition of Sam Roush and the continued steady presence of Cole Kmet, Loveland now sits atop a tight end room that holds three very talented players. If any head coach is going to use that combination wisely, it's Ben Johnson.

Loveland still has plenty to prove before he belongs in the All-Pro conversation, but the foundation for that kind of breakout is already in place. If his chemistry with Caleb Williams continues to grow in Ben Johnson's offense, Sports Illustrated's projection could end up looking conservative.
