Colston Loveland had an excellent rookie season for the Chicago Bears. The frequent displays of chemistry between Loveland and Williams became a mainstay for the Bears as they earned their way across a flashy NFC North victory. Loveland was somewhat of a hero to the team in the playoffs, catching several key passes, and he posted 137 yards in a rare playoff game against division rivals, the Green Bay Packers.
Doing so much to ensure a playoff victory over Green Bay is enough to earn the respect and admiration of almost all Bears fans everywhere. But Loveland doesn't seem to have any intention of stopping there. It's now being reported that the young tight end will attend the annual Tight End University, an offseason workout program designed for tight ends of many levels to come together and elevate the position.
Colston Loveland is putting himself in position to take the next step
Tight End University is a system developed by George Kittle, Travis Kelce, and Greg Olson, some of the most well known tight ends of the modern era of football. It's extremely valuable for a young year two player to learn from the likes of Travis Kelce, one of the most prolific tight ends of the last decade. Kelce's level of success is something that isn't commonly found in a single player, which means Loveland is wise to put himself in a position to learn from it.
With the new found success of the Bears under the leadership of Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams finally has a path forward to advance his game in a situation where he isn't evading for his life. This has allowed him the time he needed to develop in-game chemistry with his receivers, and Loveland turned out to be one of his favorites. It's the top reason that Loveland ended the regular season with more receiving yards than anyone else on the Bears with 713 yards.
Loveland's commitment is evident by attending the special tight ends event because this isn't anything even close to mandatory. There's six weeks between OTAs and training camp, and it's time that Loveland could be spending on vacation or with his family. By choosing to better himself and his gameplay, he's displaying the exact kind of attitude that has propelled him to be a young leader in the locker room. If Loveland's rookie season was any indication, Bears fans should be excited to see what another offseason of development could do for one of Caleb Williams' favorite targets.
