Caleb Williams shockingly makes the podium in the NFL's most infamous list

This doesn't add up.

With Caleb Williams tabbed as Patrick Mahomes' second coming, the Chicago Bears wouldn't make the same mistake twice. They didn't get the actual Mahomes when they could, so they were hell-bent on getting the 2.0 version.

Caleb Williams' rookie season was pretty much a waste. Matt Eberflus clearly wasn't the right guy to develop him, and he was the league's most sacked quarterback behind a mediocre offensive line. Then, things took a big turn last season.

However, even after leading the team to the NFC North title and the Divisional Round, it looks like some still are unfazed by the former No. 1 pick. In fact, FanSided experts chose him as the second-most overrated player in the league.

Caleb Wiliams should use this as bulletin board material

"The expectations surrounding Williams as he entered the NFL are definitely playing into his overrated moniker. A bona fide first-overall pick in 2024, Williams was touted as a franchise-altering quarterback who would change the culture of whatever team landed him right away," Jason Kandel wrote. "Ironically enough, Williams is a victim of his own success both in college and in the pros. Unless he turns in an MVP-caliber season and a deep playoff run, he will almost certainly still be considered overrated. "

Williams only trails Denver Broncos' Bo Nix on this list, earning 16 total points and four first-plate votes. However, it looks like he's just a victim of the circumstances and the sky-high expectations around him.

Scouts, fans and analysts used the word 'generational' way too lightly. The odds were stacked against him as a rookie, and while his poor completion percentage was a talking point last season, it shouldn't be the only knock on such a promising signal-caller.

Williams has already proven that he can make every single throw in the book, especially the most ridiculous ones. Also, he's the type of guy who answers the call in big moments; he thrives in high-stakes situations and orchestrated several comebacks and late-game heroics.

Talent-wise, you'd have to be a massive hater not to acknowledge that Williams is up there with the all-time greats. Of course, his decision-making must be better, and he has to make the layups, but we're talking about a second-year player whose rookie season was essentially a waste.

Great things take time, yet Williams has already helped a bottom-feeding team look like a Super Bowl contender. Granted, Ben Johnson is a brilliant coach, but it takes a special talent to execute and do some of the things Williams has already done.

That's what happens whenever a team that wasn't in the plans suddenly becomes good. The Bears are hearing all the noise about how they'll regress, and this should only serve as bulletin board material for the 2026 season.

Williams has heard it all. From off-putting remarks about his personality to people doubting his ability to succeed at the next level, he's always been unfazed by the outside noise and the naysayers. Now, it's time to silence them once and for all.
