One of the defining arguments for the Chicago Bears and the NFC North as the 2026 season got underway was Jordan Love vs. Caleb Williams. On paper there is no way around the fact that the hated rival has the better resume in the way of regular season stats. However, Williams had the advantage of a playoff win head-to-head and a clear level of performance against a team that had previously dominated Chicago throughout the tenure of Aaron Rodgers.
Now, the Bears have won two straight against their hated rival and Sunday's action offered the perfect example as to why fans believe it is Williams who has the upper hand in any quarterback ranking. Love put up great numbers on Sunday with 387 passing yards and a part of touchdowns offering more than 100 yards more than Williams.
The stark contrast is exactly what Bears fans were pointing to when looking at the playoff matchup a season ago. When the Vikings started their comeback Love shrank turning the ball over twice and having no answers against a team forced to turn to its backup quarterback. The rival looked incredibly human and was unable to deliver when the game was on the line and Green Bay needed a play.
It is a familiar theme in big games for Love, and Williams has proven to be the complete opposite. Sunday showed this with the signal caller having an answer each and every time the Chicago defense gave up a score. Williams thrives under pressure and is at his absolute best, the same cannot be said of Love, who often appears to let the moment get to him.
Bears have clear advantage in NFC North due to Caleb Williams having obvious clutch gene
Chicago is going to point to this advantage anytime that Packer fans want to push back around the narrative of Williams being the better quarterback. While regular season numbers are in the favor of Love, the Chicago quarterback has the playoff record and a far better record of performing in the clutch when the degree of difficulty is at its highest.
Williams is the best quarterback in the NFC North and the case for this was made for those who watched the games this past Sunday. Box scores lie and this past week is the perfect example of this with Love having a rough day when the game was on the line but putting up great numbers.
The Bears are simply making far too compelling of a case that they have not only the best quarterback in the North, but one of the most talented in the entire league. Watching Williams continue to make this case is one of the most exciting aspects of the year ahead and will leave Green Bay fans with no shortage of misery to endure.
