The Chicago Bears offense was clearly at the top of its game Sunday putting up 59 points in a win that was as complete of an offensive effort as you'll see throughout the league. Included in this was Williams putting up numbers that could kick off an MVP campaign if the signal caller is anything close to the player fans watched in Week 1. Williams went 21/29 passing for 269 yards and a pair of passing touchdowns to go along with 65 rushing yards and a pair of scores on the ground.
Outside of Josh Allen, it is hard to say that any other signal caller played as perfect as Williams. The Bears quarterback didn't just put up empty calories with this game remaining incredibly close through most of three quarters before Chicago's defense was able to figure things out and pull away just a bit.
However, most of the production came when the game was on the line and Carolina was trading blows putting up numbers almost on pace with the Bears. It points to the undeniable fact that Williams is going to be expected to shoulder far more this season and has already written the first line on a 2026 resume that could end with an MVP.
As much as Chicago's goal clearly remains playing in February and not personal accolades, the offense of Ben Johnson is going to set up the chance for the franchise to accomplish both. Williams is an electric talent and is unquestionably in the discussion as a future face of the league.

Adding to the case for Williams starting an MVP campaign is realizing that Johnson was completely serious about wanting a historic offense. The head coach isn't going to let his foot off the gas in games but wants to completely put games out of reach and accomplish a level of domination that sets up the chance for huge numbers and clearly leaves Week 1 as a message as to what could lie ahead.
With this in mind, it isn't an overreaction to expect Williams to put himself in the MVP conversation, but understanding the tone of this team. It is also giving the quarterback credit for the obvious improvements he has made and an undeniable leap that showed up in the first week of the season.
No question, Bears fans are in for a fun season from Williams, and perhaps watching what has the chance to be the most accomplished one in modern Bears history. All eyes remain on 18 understanding what he means to the league and the heights that are well within reach in the 2026 season.
