It doesn't come as a surprise to Chicago Bears fans that Caleb Williams ranked at the top when it comes to 20+ yard touchdown throws. PFF celebrated the league's most touchdown throws on 20+ air yards, with Williams offering 13 in the 2025 season. This is incredibly impressive in the quarterback's second NFL season and his first in Ben Johnson's offense. Learning the complicated offense cannot be discounted and speaks to a player who is just scratching the surface of his potential.
Perhaps what is more interesting is the quarterback from Williams' class that is tied for first with the signal caller. It isn't Drake Maye, who led the New England Patriots to a Super Bowl appearance or Jayden Daniels, who was the second quarterback off the board behind Williams. The final first-round quarterback taken was Bo Nix, landing with Sean Payton's Denver Broncos.
Nix had 13 touchdowns as well on throws that sailed over 20+ yards inviting an interesting comparison. It is shocking this isn't a number being matched by Josh Allen or one of the league's more respected quarterbacks.
This isn't to discount what Nix has accomplished in his young career, but the reality of a player whose talent level doesn't have him in the same conversations as Williams when it comes to expectations and ceiling moving forward. Still, the numbers don't lie and there is no denying the Denver quarterback is coming off an incredibly productive season.
Bears Fans will be Surprise by Quarterback Joining Caleb Williams in Deep Throw Productivity
Nix joining Williams over wahat has turned into an impressive quarterback class with both Daniels and Maye included is objectively amusing. It also suggests that perhaps one of Williams draft mates is a bit underrated in the national conversation. Nix unquestionably has the numbers and is coming off a playoff win over the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen.
For Williams, the more important takeaway is the elite production when it comes to hitting the deep ball. A lot of this is due to the quarterback's ability to utilize his legs to create space and keep plays alive. This hands receivers a far better chance to outrun the defense and create big plays.
It is a part of the magic of Williams and unsurprising that the signal caller ranked at the top of the league in this category. The only surprise is who joins the quarterback with it being an overlooked starter who is quietly putting together a great start to his career.
