One obvious area of concern in year one for Caleb Williams was the level of punishment the franchise allowed the young quarterback to take. As we continue to near the regular season, PFF ranked the top-ten offensive lines, with Chicago holding the fifth-ranked line and only behind the Tampa Bay Bucs and Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC. It is a far cry from where Chicago was two years ago and speaks to the focus of an organization that understands Williams needed more support.
The quarterback is magic in the pocket and can find ways to create space and evade would-be tacklers. However, there is only so much any starter can do when your line was a leaky as Chicago's in his debut season. Last year was a huge step forward, with veteran Joe Thuney being the biggest impact addition. Darnell Wright has recently been extended and brings an obvious level of stability as well, pointing to the progress the unit has made.
Veteran center Garrett Bradbury is coming off a Super Bowl appearance with the New England Patriots and brings an impressive resume. Add in the addition of rookie Logan Jones, who is expected to be the center of the future and is providing undeniable depth on the inside. No question, the unit is far better than it has been in recent memory, leaving every reason to believe Williams is set up to take another leap forward.
Bears Offensive Line Depth Setting up Caleb Williams to Take Huge 2026 Leap
Williams was on the fringe of superstardom last season and continually showed signs of impressive development. Having one of the league's best offensive lines would make it impossible to believe the quarterback doesn't fully take this leap, as well as offering Chicago the most accomplished quarterback season in franchise history. As lofty as this might seem, the talent of Williams is undeniable, and the offensive line needed for it to be fully explored is in place.
The group of playmakers is incredibly strong as well, making the offensive line improvements all the more exciting. Having a line buy extra time when you have explosive athletes like Luther Burden, Colston Loveland, and Rome Odunze is going to open up the chance to hit consistent big plays and force the secondary to make mistakes.
No question, while a lot of fan focus is understandably on the quarterback himself and the team's playmakers, it is the offensive line improvements that truly have this offense ready to take a leap and put itself into the discussion as the league's best.
