Caleb Williams Dealt Impossible Task vs. Patriots After Friday Injury News
By Cem Yolbulan
As we enter the second half of the NFL season, the Chicago Bears are facing a tough test on Sunday as they host the New England Patriots. The test itself isn't necessarily the 2-7 Patriots but the fact that they will be missing several key starters.
The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain reported on Friday that the Bears will be missing Braxton Jones, Darnell Wright, and Kiran Amegadjie in Week 10. That means that Caleb Williams will not have the three best offensive tackles on the team available against the Patriots defense.
Bears News: Chicago's Offensive Line is in Shambles Ahead of Week 10
Wright has been starting at right tackle and Jones at left tackle all season while rookie Amegadjie also seeing snaps as LT. Considering how the Bears already had a disappointing offensive line, this will be a serious problem.
How Matt Eberflus will solve this problem remains to be seen. Teven Jenkins, Coleman Shelton, and Matt Pryor will presumably continue starting on the interior, but there is a chance we could see Pryor moved out to tackle. Larry Borom seems like a safe bet to start with Jake Curhan or Ryan Bates being the other option.
There is also a chance Nate Davis could make his return after being a healthy scratch for the past three games. Despite the expectation that he would be traded at the deadline, he is still on the team and could potentially start at right guard, moving Pryor to one of the tackle positions.
The Bears can certainly still defeat the Patriots with a depleted offensive line. In fact, they are still 7.5-point favorites on FanDuel Sportbook. However, Caleb Williams will have to step up his game to end the two-game losing streak.
