Caleb Williams Admits Connection With Top Bears Target is Lacking
During the 2024 offseason, the Chicago Bears put together a star-studded wide receiver room to help rookie quarterback Caleb Williams develop. Entering the season, everyone expected Williams's number one target to be D.J. Moore.
Moore had the best season of his career last year with the Bears, catching 96 passes for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns. His production last year led the Bears to offer Moore a four-year, $110 million extension this past offseason.
Although there have been flashes of chemistry between Williams and Moore this season, it has not been consistent. Williams and Moore's best game together was against the Carolina Panthers when they connected for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
However, what fans have been seeing from the two is a lot of miscommunication. Multiple times throughout games, it seems like Williams expects Moore to run a different route than he ends up running. This has caused numerous incompletions and the end of many drives.
With these issues persisting through eight games, the fans and the media are looking for answers.
During his Wednesday press conference, Williams was asked about his and Moore's lack of chemistry so far this season. Williams said, "It’s not in a place where we would like it. Both of us, it’s frustrating."
It's clear week in and week out that Moore has been frustrated with the lack of chemistry. But, hearing Williams admit he is frustrated by it, too, is a positive sign.
Even though Williams has looked bad in the past two games, he has already shown this year that he can course-correct after bad performances. That ability should reassure fans that he and Moore can fix their lack of chemistry.
At the end of the day, the two need to figure this out because they'll both be here for a long time.
