The league as a whole is once again embracing Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams as the numbers since his return have been undeniably great. Williams is yet to lose a game this season he starts and finishes and since his return from injury hasn't trailed for a single minute.
While this gives credit to the defense of Dennis Allen and the pieces around Williams as well, Chicago fans were given a taste of life without the quarterback and understand the clearly elite ceiling.
Another factor that cannot be ignored is how great Williams has been when it comes to handling the media. Chicago fans haven't forgotten how many opposing fans and pundits opted to poke fun at the quarterback's reaction to an injury not fully understood. There were tears in the face of Williams and a fist pump to the crowd as he was being taken off the field.
Receiving this type of negative attention for how Williams carries himself isn't new and isn't likely to go anywhere. It seemingly has inspired the quarterback to play the best football of his career and go on what can be undeniably described as a revenge tour. Chicago has to be thrilled with the level the star is playing also understanding it shows exactly how he responds to a difficult road.
Dating back to college there has been a history of questioning his leadership due to showing emotion. Baked into this was opting to paint his nails, an expression that the worst of football fans would find fault in. All of this helped prepare Williams for what he faced when it came to his injury reaction and going on what has been an elite run.
Caleb Williams continues winning new fans as Bears enjoy quarterback's revenge tour
The total numbers fail to tell the complete story as Chicago is so in control of games head coach Ben Johnson isn't forced to unleash Williams at the peak of his powers. Still, there is an impressive six touchdowns to only one interception to go along with an elite 70.9% completion percentage and 1,267 passing yards in four and a half games played.
Context is incredibly important that the Bears have been in control consistently and able to run the ball leaving no need for Williams to put up flashy numbers. With this in mind, the Bears have every reason to wonder if this couldn't have been an MVP campaign for the quarterback if not for the missed time.
The counter to this being the missed time gave Williams a clear level of motivation. The unquestioned disrespect and attempt to poke fun at a human moment hasn't damaged the confidence of the quarterback, but pushed him to the peak of his powers leaving the signal caller as a player who now must be feared.
