The Chicago Bulls have a long way to go to rediscover contender status in the Eastern Conference. While the franchise has worked to shed bad contracts over the last year, there are still a handful of moves to be made to give the Bulls a chance for a needed reset. Next season isn't about becoming a surprise contender, but about developing young talent and giving frustrated fans a reason to stay engaged. A piece of this could be looking at a surprising signing that would invite headlines (and a fair share of criticism) from league pundits.

If the Bulls want to make a splash without spending any actual money, one potential option could be point guard Russell Westbrook. The veteran's name and accomplishments are going to invite fan interest in what will be a lost season. Perhaps there is even a chance the veteran starts out the season well and becomes a surprise trade option at the deadline. Regardless, it is time for Chicago to make a move, and Westbrook is the perfect potential option.

The Bulls Should Consider Signing Russell Westbrook

Adding the veteran is the exact type of move you make when you're looking to draw attention but not expecting to win. Each team in Westbrook's path has learned this the hard way, no matter how much fun or the heights the veteran reached. Playing winning basketball isn't a part of who the veteran is at this stage of his career. Even with one of the greatest minds the league has seen in Denver, Russ had moments when he let the game get away from him.

The up-and-down, volatile nature of his game is frustrating and absolutely fascinating. It's impossible not to be entertained by his game even at this late stage of his career. With this in mind, the Bulls should offer the veteran a limited deal that gives them both a fan attraction and a possible trade chip.

Adding Westbrook isn't about changing expectations but about furthering entertainment value and adding at least one household name to a rebuilding roster. No question, Westbrook is a signing the Bulls should at least consider.
