Much was made about the Chicago Bears' Rome Odunze talking about his foot injury and whether or not he was back up to full speed. There was discussion about a "new normal" that could be read in a number of ways when it comes to what limitations Odunze could be facing moving forward. However, head coach Ben Johnson commented via The Score's Chris Emma, "He's out there, he says he feels great, and he looks good to me. ... He looks like the same old Rome."

Johnson is pouring cold water on the idea that Odunze is facing any limitations or real concerns when it comes ot his health. It is very possible that one off comment was taken out of context and overreacted to in what is a slow news cycle. Johnson has a front row seat to the receiver's performance and health, leaving no reason to believe the head coach isn't being straightforward at this point in the offseason.

Odunze appears to be in a great position and ready to take a leap forward after the departure of DJ Moore. While Luther Burden has been a point of focus due to the consistency and chemistry with Caleb Williams, Odunze is expected to take on a bigger role as well and take a hoped-for leap.

Bears Receiver Rome Odunze Appears on Track Despite Concerning Commment

Odunze has 661 receiving yards despite playing only 12 games and dealing with a consistent injury. This led to the surgery that had Odunze commenting on his "new normal" sending Bears fans into an uproar and worrying about the receiver's future. For a player who is so incredibly important after the departure of Moore, this is understandable.

Still, it seems that everything is under control with Odunze appearing healthy throughout minicamp and showing clear progress. It is the type of performance that leaves reason to believe the receiver is going to have the first 1,000 yard receiving season of the young pass catcher's career.

Odunze should benefit as well from the speed addition of Zavion Thomas, with Burden and Thomas consistently putting pressure over the top and opening up more underneath and intermediate for Odunze as the receiver remains on track for a breakout season.
